The competition who seeks sailing young talents finally arrived this week in El Puerto de Santa María after having travelled around twelve countries during the past year and a half.
Puerto Sherry's wind conditions weren't easy for these 32 young participants (aged 16-20) who were facing the Flying Phantoms for the first time, even though many of them had a broad experience with catamarans.
The participants' level was quite high, but the catalan teams have clearly managed to dominate the competition, specially the teams formed by Nil Más and Jordi Llena, and the brothers Jordi and Rubén Booth who clearly dominated from the very first heat and finally, after a tight final, Más & Llena's tactic awarded them the victory. The third position is also for the catalan's Joan Costa and Pol Resina.
“We've competed against the fifteen best crews and the level was very high but we were also all new comers to these boats. Our main key to win has been knowing that we shouldn't fail and by no means we should go to the repechage heats but we also know that fate plays a big role ”, commented Jordi Llena.
“We come from 29er which a fast boat, but in comparison to the Flying Phantom it's way shorter and we don't usually sail catamarans, so the feelings with this boat have been amazing. The speed sensation, being able to sail a flying boat is just incredible", added Nil Más.
Despite the levante wind over 30 knots which has forced the cancellation of the final heats, the spectacle was served from the very first moment since up until now a foil competition hadn't been done in Puerto Sherry.
